Q&A with Power Mom Jess Von Bank

Lessons Learned about Rebuilding Broken Systems and Recalibrating Personal Perspective

As a woman, I know how challenging it can be to navigate the complexities of motherhood, work, and personal life. Jess Von Bank's experience and advice were refreshing and insightful. I am excited to share the top lessons I learned from her on leading a proud, purposeful, and unapologetic life.

Lesson 1: Don't be defined by labels

Jess’ experience has taught her that one doesn't need labels to succeed. She identifies herself as one individual with a purpose in life: to change the world of work and the world for girls.

Lesson 2: Prioritize your mission

Jess Von Bank wakes up each day with a mission to enact her vision and focuses on getting things done rather than balancing or scheduling her time. She believes that her purpose is to do good things and change the world for the better, which is a powerful motivator that can hardwire a sense of pride and purpose into all aspects of your life.

Lesson 3: Ask for support

For single mothers trying to succeed in the work world, Jess advised them to learn and know their voice, practice using it, and take up space. Be willing to ask for championship from those with influence, privilege, or budget. Stay in the fight, it takes a community, and it's not just women's work to advance women and girls, but everyone's work.

Lesson 4: Democratize systems and policies

Jess is a strong advocate for democratizing systems and policies to let people be part of their own solutions and work on their own terms. This means being creative and flexible in work requirements and making everyone feel valued and heard.

Lesson 5: Rebuild Broken Systems

According to Jess, the system of work was designed for profit, not for people. This makes it difficult for humans to thrive in the workplace. Jess advocates for deconstructing and rebuilding broken systems, such as the American childcare system, parental leave, healthcare, and public school systems, which were not designed to support working women and moms.

I hope you find these lessons as helpful and insightful as I did! Considering how you can take action on these lessons will help us embody a proud, purposeful, and unapologetic life and ultimately achieve a work-life balance that fulfills us both professionally and personally.

Until next time, live boldly, showcase your brilliance, and be a badass.
